Mark1 created: Eagle Ray - a very underrated species

I have been investing tackle-wise at unprecedented levels for myself and took my new combo of a Sage Method and a Htach Fanatic reel onto the water hoping for a kingfish to bend the rod and make the reel sing - instead what happened is on the video linked below ...
Eagle Ray versus Sage and Hatch

And by the end of the ten minute fight I gotta say an Eagle Ray is a worthy opponent, and unlike kingfish, can give you the aerial acrobatics that will startle you!

Great stuff Mark, do you use crab flies?

I'd also like to know what fly you're using. I've jagged them before whilst targeting them but really want to mouth-hook one. I've got a few locations where I can find them all the time.

Cheers,

Hi AlHughes,
Was using a standard clouser pattern -but that wasn't of any significance as I had foul hooked it in the left wing tip ... although I did witness Craig Worthington fair hook a ray in the mouth. We thought he had hooked a mother of a kingfish!
This the second one I've foul hooked in five years - both have been dogged fighters.
